Growing Up

So you notice there was no comic last week. I had more pressing issue to deal with like seeing Freelance, Harold and Kumar, and playing video games. This comic was sent through about 3 rewrites. I will try giving you two comics next week. That’s if Grand Theft Auto IV will let me.

I have been told what Mike has been told before. Yeah, I’m kind of a man child. Here is the thing why can’t I be? I’m not married nor do I have kids. Why do people think the stuff you do for fun is not acting like an adult? I was always told when you are grown when you can take care of yourself, manage your responsibilities, make good decisions and being able to make act mature when it mattered. I like to do stuff I have fun doing, being it video games, or whatever. I will throw all my fun in the garage can if something important came up. That’s called “having your Priorities in order.” I feel you should mature but you should never change who you are. You should do the right thing and all the other stuff doesn’t matter. I mean if i had a choice between paying bills or getting like stuff. As much as we all hate paying bills they are mandatory. When I was in college I thought I was grown, I wasn’t. Being 5 years out of college in August of this year and looking back, I see what it is to be man and to be grown. It’s not being able to buy beer, party at clubs every night or everytime I get a chance, playing house (you know what I mean), or making gambles with my money and future. It’s asking should I have a budget, should I handle some business or should a go out and enjoy myself, choosing to be with this person and becoming committed to them, saving money back and having a plan for your future. Choosing a right things or making decisions and sticking by them are what it means to be a grown man or a woman. When you can stand on your two feet and take the blows that life throw at you and get back up makes you grown.

“What makes a man a man? A friend of mine once wondered. Is it his origins? The way he comes to life? I don’t think so. It’s the choices he makes. Not how he starts things, but how he decides to end them.” – John Meyes, Hellboy the Movie (2004)

Case and point: My best Friend Dorrell (who is in panel two) He hasn’t changed but he’s toned down a lot since getting married. Toning down is for the better, but he is FAR from boring. Does this change who he is? Nope. He’s still my best friend, plus if he didn’t mature with age he would not make the good decision he makes. (Milk was a bad choice.) Now, if Dorrell turned on a dime and just changed in a instant I would have some questions. A son looms in his future, meaning he won’t have time for other things, which happens. Will he forget about video games, and all our non sense. Nope because when I come visit or whatever he gets a time to stop (not fully ignore) life and get to let loose. Afterwards he has to go back to being a father and husband which he will/does enjoys. He will not stop being that guy I would talk about the Simpsons with on our lunch break in high school. I’m sure my life would be too busy for stuff in the future.

Sorry if I came off preachy and verbose.

Congrats to Dorrell and Danielle on finding out the Kid will be a boy.
Also Happy LATE Birthday to Dorrell and Afua! both of them are 28 and I will join them next Friday in the 28 year old club.
I SLAM EVIL! because the 12 year old kid in me says I should.

Out of all the stips, I would be in the more serious one, huh? LOL, anywho, it’s makes an interesting topic because I still like doing all of those things and sometimes my wife even joins me. Not to mention, she does watch Next Top Model ,Project Runway, Dancing with the Stars, and lets’ not forget Amerian Idol.
