Separate but Equal
This happened to me when I was around 14 or so. The clerk at the local record shop was offended i was buying something that didn’t feature a black artist or artists. There is music created by black, white, yellow and whatever people. Let’s not call it black music. I mean we already know it’s music by a black person. It’s like people say my art is black art. It’s a descriptor but it is not a genre or a requirement for entry. I am proud to be black, I am really, I promise. But the thing as always bother me because I may do art with black people in it doesn’t mean it’s only for black people. Because if it was I would have made sure to NEVER post it on the internet, but made some kind of genetics altering viewing or printing that would allow only black people to see it. The problem would be some of the people with 15% or less black in their blood would see a blur.
The clerk was wrong in judging me about my purchase. He wasn’t trying to make money but to sway me to some kind of world where it us and them. It’s the same thinking that the Klan is based off. “If it ain’t white, it ain’t right.” I understand black pride but sometimes it does go to far.
Why could he just tell me the CD was just bad. That’s the one that usually lets me know that it sucks.
Until next week, SLAM EVIL!
